New Global Internet Tax, Courtesy Of the UN

Here’s some news that makes SOPA and PIPA look like pansy legislation: leaked documents show that the UN is pushing a global internet tax on internet providers who serve non- U.S. countries. If that’s not one of the creepiest things I’ve read recently…

The United Nations decided that big players such as Google, Facebook and Apple need to pay a tax for bringing content to other countries (kind of like when you make an international call, but a million times worse). Now what do you think will happen next? Think big companies will want to pay a penalty for providing content to international users? Didn’t think so- so now other countries, especially developing countries, will be in danger of losing communication. The Internet- one of the last truly frontiers left- has been suffering some harsh blows from the US, but now ideas coming from the UN is a different monster. Strange, none of the major news outlets are reporting it.

Is it just me, or is the idea of the UN controlling anything concerning the internet really, really, scary?
